The best-tasting junk-food-imitating healthy food around. 1. hot dogs Get LightLife Smart Dogs. 2. hamburgers Get Gardenburger Hamburger Style, Classic. These burgers (hydrated soy protein concentrate, etc.) are good with ketchup and mustard. Or try Morningstar Farms® Philly Cheese Steak Veggie Burgers. 3. spaghetti and meatballs Get Trader Joe's Meatless Meatballs(textured vegetable protein, etc.), any organic whole wheat spaghetti, and Muir Glen Organic Pizza Sauce (or their spaghetti sauce, which isn't quite as good). The meatballs simmer in the sauce. 4. chicken patties Get Boca Original Chik'n Patties (soy protein, etc.). 5. stir-fry à la Chinese take-out Get red and green bell peppers, onions, broccoli, mushrooms, and either any good frozen stir-fry mix or carrots, celery, bamboo shoots, Chinese pea pods, yellow squash, and water chestnuts. Also get 2/3 cup Healthy Alternative Soy Strips and soak them in 1 1/3 cups boiling water for 1 hour, drain and then add ¾ teaspoon powdered ginger, ¾ teaspoon garlic flakes or granules, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 2 tablespoons Bragg Liquid Aminos, and 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Stir and let marinate overnight. Stir fry on high heat 4 cups fresh and 3 cups frozen veges in mild sesame oil, then add ½ the marinaded strips and ½ the liquid. Cover and cook for 5 minutes after steam escapes. 6. vegetable soup Get 3 cups of the above leftover stir fry and add Shelton's Vegetable Chicken Soup, a can of canned corn without added sugar, a cup of water, ½ teaspoon of Herbamare Organic Herb Seasoning Salt, and (optional) a can of navy beans. Stir, heat, and serve alone or with some cooked basmati rice added. 7. enchiladas Get Trader Joe's Roasted Vegetable Enchiladas (corn, veges, skim milk mozzarella cheese, etc.) or Trader Jose's Handcrafted Chicken Enchiladas (tomatoes, soybean oil, chicken, corn, etc.). 8. brown rice Get basmati brown rice—you'll never want the white stuff again. 9. baked beans Get Greene's Farm Baked Beans (navy beans, etc.). They're carried by Rainbow Natural Foods. DISCONTINUED 10. waffles Get Trader Joe's Wheat-Free Toaster Waffles. Put Joseph's Sugar Free Maple Syrup on them or eat 'em plain. 11. bacon Get Morningstar Farms Breakfast Strips (egg whites, soybean oil, textured soy protein concentrate, etc.). 12. breakfast sausage Get Morningstar Farms Breakfast Links (textured vegetable protein, etc.). 13. burritos Get Trader Joe's Chicken Burritos. 14. veggie burger Get Dr. Praeger's California Veggie Burgers which are made of just about the healthiest stuff you can imagine. |
