It's important to keep laptop or flat screen monitor screens out of harm's way. I
found that a piece of scrap one-by-four, a bit of scrap wood paneling, a can of
thin 1 ˝-inch nails, and a couple of spare drawer handles was all it took to
eliminate these dangers.
I cut a piece of the one-by-four long enough
so that a box with it as the top would clear the top and sides of the laptop
with a few inches to spare. I cut the plywood tall enough so that the box didn't
end up resting on the top of the computer. Then I cut two more pieces of one-by-four
8 3/4 inches long to be the sides of the cover. They were for the upper
half of the sides of the box only—I left the bottom half of the sides open since
I realized that there were a lot of wires and cables going from the wall to
the computer and it was best if these wires exited the side of the cover.
I
added the handles to the top and side of the cover before nailing it together;
these made it easier to handle the cover with no bending and the least
strain. I made the cover so it would fit on top of the laptop/flat-screen holder. This cover sat on the offset on the front of the holder, but had no resting place
on the back until I made one, so I got a 20-inch piece of two-by-two and added
a 3/16-inch plywood paneling ledge to it that was 2 inches by 20 inches. I added
this assembly to the holder at just the right place so the cover would sit
straight.
